Public Housing

     

Important Announcement Regarding Applications: AT THIS TIME WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY APPLICATIONS AS OUR WAITING LISTS ARE COMPLETELY FULL.                                                                                                                 Highlands Residential Services has 497 conventional efficiency, one, two, three, and four bedroom public housing units. These homes are located in Algood, Baxter, Celina, Cookeville, Gainesboro and Monterey.

Public housing is for lower-income individuals and families who earn less than 80% of the area median income. Tenants of this program’s dwellings pay approximately 30% of their adjusted income for rent.

 

Walnut Village

Highlands Residential Services Walnut Village homes in Cookeville has 80 one and two bedroom apartments that are specifically designated for the elderly and disabled. Walnut Village is conveniently located across from the Cookeville Senior Citizens Center and is close to grocery stores, banks, post office and health care services.

Walnut Village rental assistance for private housing units designated for the elderly and disabled are subsidized with a Housing Assistance Payment contract with HUD.

 

Willow Heights

 Our Willow Heights homes in Cookeville were built in 2000 by utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credits along with Housing Assistance Payment contract through HUD. Willow Heights has 30 one and two bedroom housing units for individuals age 62 and older. These apartments are conveniently located in a quiet cul-de-sac off Willow Avenue and are close to grocery stores, banks, a post office and health care providers.

 

Oak Tree Towers

  Our newest development, Oak Tree Towers in Cookeville, is a 50 one-bedroom, three-story midrise for low-income seniors age 62 and up. Oak Tree Towers has many modern amenities including elevators and a sprinkler system. Program funding for Oak Tree Towers is completely different from any of our other housing programs and is done through a federal H.O.M.E. grant. These apartments are conveniently located on Buffalo Valley Road and are close to grocery stores, shopping, banks, churches, and health care providers. All applicants must be 62 years of age or older and meet eligibility and income limit guidelines. Oak Tree Towers (both inside and outside) will be tobacco and smoke free.

 
 

Hickory Valley Apartments

   Our new Hickory Valley Apartments located on Buffalo Valley Road in Cookeville will have 48 one, two, and three bedroom multi-family homes. There will be a mix of one-level and two-story units. Basic construction began in the Fall of 2021 with a projected completion date of late 2023.

 
 

Magnolia Ridge Apartments

Our third new development is currently in the planning stages. More information will be available in the future.
